On Feb. 1, ETSU President Paul Stanton announced that the Campaign for ETSU Tomorrow had exceeded its $100 million goal.
The campaign, which began in 1997, is “acclaimed at developing endowments for scholarships for students or endowments for equipment and facilities,” Stanton said. “The students will benefit tremendously from the endowments.”
During the five-year fund-raiser, Stanton raised the goal several times. “We started off with a goal of raising maybe 35 million to 40 million dollars, but we ended up raising over $100 million,” he said.
Stanton says this project would not have been possible without the help of others.
Former First District Congressman James H. Quillen served as the honorary chairman for the campaign, and Stuart E. Wood Jr. and Wayne Basler served as cochairmen.
Stanton also recognized the gracious donations that the ETSU faculty and staff has made each year.
Through numerous contributions from individuals and businesses, the Campaign for ETSU Tomorrow was able to extend and meet the goal every time.
One company, Parametric Technology Corp., out of California, has given the university a grant of $300,000 of computer software for the Niswonger Digital Media Lab for each seat in the class. Some other contributions include a personal donation of $1.5 million from Scott M. Niswonger, a member of the ETSU Foundation, and Wayne Basler’s gift of nearly one million dollars in scholarship funds and equipment for the College of Applied Science and Technology.
Although the Campaign for ETSU Tomorrow has reached it’s $100 million goal, the project will not end until June 30, 2002. Stanton expects the funds to reach $105 million to $110 million over the few remaining months. After this campaign ends, Stanton says another fundraiser will begin with concentration on leadership areas.
