The Buccaneer track teams took part in the Valentine’s Day Invitational hosted by Appalachian State University last Thursday.
Freshman runners had all three ETSU victories during the meet. In the 800m, Kim Simmons edged out sophomore Tiffany Collier by less than a second to win in 2:24.30. James Grufferty won the 3000m in 8:42.10, which set an arena record at ASU by .90 seconds. Distance runner Brad Yewer won the 800m in a season-best time of 1:57.00.
Yewer also placed second in the 1000m run (2:36.3).
The women’s team earned several top-10 finishes. Collier finished second in the 800m in 2:25.70 and took third in the 200m in 26.00 seconds. Freshman Jennifer Habbestad ran a 2:36.20 to take fourth in the 800m.
In the 1000m run, senior Lauren Campbell placed fifth with a time of 3:03.20 and sophomore Emily Chaney placed ninth in the 3000m with a time of 11:27.6. Freshman Tawny Davis ran the 200m in 27.70 to earn fourth place.
On the men’s side, David Cabbler placed second in the 400m in 50.30 and placed fifth in the 200m (22.80). Clint Davis also placed in the top-10 in the 400 with an eighth place finish in 52.40.
Senior Jon Shaw also earned two top-10 finishes, placing sixth in the 400m (51.60) and ninth in the 200m (23.30). Teammate Kaylin Chesney took sixth place in the 200m in 22.90. Nick Andrews was also timed at 23.30 in the 200m to tie Shaw for ninth.
Sophomore David Haefner turned in a season-best performance in the 3000m, placing third overall with a time of 8:54.40. Lawrence Lockhart earned a fourth place finish in the 800m in a time of 2:01.20 and senior Mike Farkas placed 10th in the 3000m with a time of 9:20.30.

The Buccaneer track and field teams also took part in the Tennessee Indoor Invitational at the Stokely Athletic Center hosted by the University of Tennessee last Friday.
The Bucs earned several top-10 finishes along the way.
The women performed well in the field events. Cheryl Howard jumped 5′ 1″ to earn fifth place in the high jump. In the long jump, Kristin Truman finished in seventh with a jump of 16′ 7.25″ while Brooke Deacon jumped 16′ 1″ to finish in eighth spot.
In the 55m dash preliminaries, Natasha Peyton placed seventh overall in 7.30 seconds with senior Jennifer Howard finishing ninth with a time of 7.35.
The men also finished well in the field events. Charvin Clark jumped 23′ 7.5″ to earn a fourth-place finish in the long jump. In the shot put, senior Josh Artau threw for 45′ 10.75″ to finish in ninth.
Junior Adam Woods took fourth place in the pole vault (13′ 5.25″) and in the 55m preliminaries, Jarius Allman placed 45th in a time of 6.96.
ETSU will host the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Memorial Center beginning on Friday, Feb. 22, and continuing through Saturday, Feb. 23.
