Senior Dimeco Childress was named the co-Southern Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
He shares the award this week with David Schuck of UNC Greensboro. It is the second consecutive week and third time this season that Childress has been named to the honor.
For his career he has been named the conference’s player of the week four times. Earlier this season he was named the Player of the Week on Dec. 17 after scoring 25 points in a win over James Madison.
In ETSU’s first game last week, Childress came up with a career-high in his final home game, scoring 42 points against Western Carolina in a 91-77 Buccaneer victory.
It was the third time in the last four games in Memorial Center that Childress had set a new career-scoring high, hitting for 35 against Georgia Southern and then for 36 against Davidson.
The 42 points is the third-highest single game total in ETSU history and also set a record for the most points scored by any player in Memorial Center. His 27 field-goal attempts also set a new school record.
Childress also led ETSU in its win on Monday night at Furman, scoring 24 points, including hitting a key three-point shot near the end of the game that sealed a seventh straight win for the Bucs.
For the week, Childress averaged 33 points and shot 61 percent from the field, including hitting on 53.3 percent of his three-point attempts.
ETSU’s leading scorer, Childress is fourth in the conference in scoring with his 17.6 points per game average and now totals 1,254 points for his career, 10th on the all-time ETSU scoring list.
The Bucs will play their final regular season game at Appalachian State on Saturday.
