The ETSU women’s tennis team was defeated, 5-2, by Eastern Kentucky on Saturday from Greg Adams Indoor Tennis Center in Richmond, Ky.
The Lady Bucs (1-4) received their two victories in singles competition as Jessica Irey topped Eastern Kentucky’s Natalie Garcia, 6-1 and 6-4, in the No. 2 singles match.
The Lady Bucs’ Tatiana Arriaran got ETSU’s other victory in the No.3 singles match, defeating Andie Hill, 6-1 and 6-1.
Eastern Kentucky (2-6) picked up wins in all three doubles matches and at the No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 singles matches.
At the No. 1 singles Lindsay Herrera defeated the Lady Bucs’ Gemma Halim, 6-3 and 6-2.
In the No. 4 singles match Tami Williams topped Aimee Villavicencio in a tough three-set match.
Williams eventually prevailed after Villavicencio took the first set, 6-3. Williams won the next two sets 6-4 and 7-5.
In the No. 5 singles match Rachel Long defeated Heather Jones, 6-2 and 6-1 and at No. 6 Eastern Kentucky’s Megan Perry won by default.
In doubles’ action, Eastern Kentucky’s team of Herrera and Long defeated Irey and Arriaran in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-5.
In the No. 2 doubles match, EKU’s Garcia and Hill topped the Lady Bucs’ team of Halim and Villavicencio, 8-5.
Eastern Kentucky then picked up the victory in the No. 3 doubles match as Williams and Perry picked up the victory over the Lady Bucs by default.
ETSU will next host Wofford on March 10 at 1 p.m.
