The No. 61 ranked Furman women’s tennis team won its 36th consecutive conference match when the Lady Paladins defeated the ETSU Lady Bucs, 7-0, on Tuesday at Mickel Tennis Center.
The victory moves Furman to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in the Southern Conference while ETSU drops to 1-14 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Furman opened up the match by taking the doubles point.
At No. 1, Megan Dunigan and Natalie The defeated Jessica Irey and Gemma Halim, 8-3, while Mary Kovarik and Caroline Bentley earned an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 against Tatiana Arriaran and Aimee Villavicencio.
Lady Paladins Gene Holman and Mary Neill Hagood then won their No. 3 doubles match 8-0 over Heather Jones and Charmaine Luvis.
Leading 1-0, the Lady Paladins proceeded to sweep the Lady Bucs in singles action to claim the match.
Dunigan, the 62nd ranked player in the country, earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Arriaran. While Kovarik defeated Irey at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-2, Holman posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Halim at No. 3. Hagood then beat Villavilencio at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0, followed by a 6-0, 6-0 win by The at No. 5 against Jones. Bentley completed the shutout for the Lady Paladins with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 against Luvis.
ETSU will travel to Davidson on Friday for a 3 p.m. match.
