ETSU’s summer course offers students a look at other cultures.
Broaden your horizon with a course in Asian Cultures.
For the first week and a half of the course, Dr. Henry Antkiewicz will provide an introduction to the history of cultures in Japan, China and India. During the second week and a half of the class, Dr. Jeff Gold will focus on the philosophy of those cultures.
Asian Cultures courses Hist 4956 and Phil 4956 for undergraduates and Hist 5956 for graduate students are offered during the pre-summer session from 9 a.m. until noon each day.
Antkiewicz brings much life-experience to his portion of this team-taught class, having traveled in India, taught in Japan and visited China extensively.
“I plan to illustrate my lectures by showing slides of these countries that I’ve visited,” he said.
Gold also adds his own personal experiences to the second half of the term by using his background in daily yoga and meditation.
He hopes to encorporate discussions on Hinduism, Budd-hism, Taoism, Zen Buddhism, enlightenment, meditation, yoga and human nature.
