Students majoring in political science will be able to reap another benefit, as the Clive W. and Esther W. Bare Scholarship will be available at the beginning of this fall.
The Bare Scholarship is an endowed scholarship for $1,000, which is designed to help those political science seniors, who have completed 75-90 overall hours and need financial assistance.
The scholarship was first publicized in March because it had to accumulate enough interest to pay for the scholarship, as the principle could not be spent, just the interest on the principle.
“This scholarships has been on the shelf for years,” said former chair Ken Mijeski, “And I am glad to see it being put to such good use.”
The Bare scholarship will be given to two students instead of only one.
“Hopefully more students will be able to receive this award in the future. A thousand dollars sure does help when trying to pay for college, especially in times of raising tuition,” Mijeski said.
The exact dollar amount and the number of awards given in the name of Clive W. and Esther W. Bare are determined by the faculty in the political science department.
Other scholarships reserved for political science students are the Southern Dames Scholarship and the John W. Burgess Award.
Applications for these scholarships can be found in room 301 Rogers-Stout Hall. Individuals who want more information can contact the political science office, 439-4217.
