Homecoming Week, Oct. 13-19, at ETSU is a time with many activities and events taking place all over campus.
Today there will be the official beginning of Homecoming Week with the proclamation, which will be from 11 a.m.-noon in the amphitheater. During the proclamation, there will be several speakers. Proclamations from Tennessee Gov. Don Sundquist and the Johnson City Mayor Duffie Jones will be read.
Also during this ceremony, the Home-coming Court will be presented and the candidates for queen and king will be announced. The Gospel Ensemble will sing the Alma Mater while the Silent Bucs will sign for the hearing- impaired. Following this event there will be a pep rally and a cookout.
“Proclamation basically kicks off Homecoming Week,” said Kim Lowe, director of activities from Center for Student Life and Leadership.
A relay race is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15. It is going to take place in the Memorial Center. Registration will be from 5:30 – 6 p.m.
The relay race will begin at 7 p.m. and is free of charge.
According to Walker, this event will consist of “the type of games you played when you were younger.” These races will have a summer camp type atmosphere, with some of the events including tug-of-war and egg races.
Wednesday, Oct. 16, which is Homecoming Skit Night it will begin at 7 p.m. The skits are presented by student organizations. The groups participating in the skits are representing the past, so that it goes along with this year’s theme, Remember When … A Look Through the Decades.
On Thursday, Oct. 18, a Homecoming Comedy Show will take place. It will be at 8 p.m. in the Culp Center, free of charge. This event will feature comedians from BET and Comedy Central, an autographed session will follow the presentations.
