The ETSU Child Study Center has been selected by the state of Tennessee as an infant/toddler model site. Based on the quality of child care, the center can receive grants which pay for intense training, supplies and equipment.
The Child Study Center, which is one of only nine model sites selected throughout the state of Tennessee, gives area caregivers an opportunity to work with children from infancy to 3 years old, and observe the proper operations of a childcare facility.
“Six caregivers have gone for three different weeklong trainings, said Beverly Dugger, director of child study center. “We are getting ready for our last one in November. The training lasts from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. everyday, and are both individual and team projects.”
The Child Study Center is a part of the ETSU College of Education’s Center for Early Childhood Learning and Development. It is nationally recognized for its research, service and training in the area.
“This program offers a lab setting for students and a childcare facility,” Dugger said. “Care is offered to ETSU students, staff, faculty and the community on a first-come, first-serve basis.”
There is also a program offering childcare to part-time students. The program, Little Bucs, is child care offered to students based on their class schedules.
The grant money was used to purchase several new pieces of equipment, such as a hammock for the very young toddlers and infants. For more information, call Dugger at 439-4887.
