BFA exhibits by Jason Weathers and Alexa Wilson were displayed at Slocumb Galleries in Ball Hall from Nov. 1-15.
Weathers, a candidate for a bachelor’s of fine arts in drawing, works with a variety of lines to create structured, finely rendered pieces.
“Drawing with pen and ink,” Weathers said, “becomes a type of meditation.
Movements of my hand through the material and on the paper are not controlled by ideas or emotions but whether or not the line should be on the paper.”
When he creates his drawings, Weathers said he tends to get lost in the work, as if in his own realm of consciousness.
He would like the viewers’ responses to the work to be the same.
Wilson is a candidate for a bachelor’s of fine arts in graphic design and creates images using photographs and computers.
Exploring who she is and who she wants to be through her images, Wilson’s exhibit is a personal and revealing look into her life using pictures and words.
“You can be anything you want to be in front of the camera,” Wilson said. “Like the beautiful ballerina that danced on top of my music box when I was a little girl, I can pretend to be magical, to have wings surrounded by bright colors.”
Wilson said she has realized that she is not afraid to put herself out there as a photographer or performer by facing her fears and experiences of life by doing things with a twist of her own.
Slocumb Galleries is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is located on the first floor of Ball Hall.
