East Tennessee State’s men’s tennis team continued on their early-season road swing as they fell to No. 23-ranked Wake Forest, 6-1, Friday at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Demon Deacons (1-0) swept doubles play and went on to win 5-of-6 singles.
ETSU’s (2-2) doubles tandem of Alejandro Salazar and Diego Iglesias were upset at No. 1 by WFU’s David Loewenthal and Trent Brendon, 8-5.
Moises Serrano and Federico Ochoa were defeated at No. 2 doubles by Derrick Spice and Brett Ross, 8-3.
At No. 1 singles, ETSU’s Pavlovich fell to No. 35-ranked Loewenthal of WFU, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Buccaneer Iglesias was defeated by No. 109 Murray of Wake Forest, 4-6, 6-4, 2-0 (inj.). ETSU’s Ochoa fell at No. 3 singles to David Bere of Wake, 6-3, 6-2.
Salazar picked up ETSU’s lone point of the match at No. 4 singles by pulling an upset of No. 123 Brendon of WFU, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. The final two points of the match were picked up by Wake as Spice defeated Serrano at No. 5, 6-3, 6-0, and Ross defeated Fiuri at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0.
The Bucs will return to action as they travel to Knoxville to face Tennessee on Saturday.
