Dear Editor,
I would like to respond to Randi Brockman’s article, “Campus Parking Drives Hostility.”
I would just like to point out that those of us who commute to ETSU have nothing to complain about (other than poor parking by others). There is always ample parking. It’s just located more than 3 feet away from our classes (and some good exercise surely won’t kill us).
I always pull into ETSU’s parking lot just in time for my 9:20 or 9:45 class when parking is most difficult to find, and it takes me no more than 7 minutes to walk to my class. Seven minutes is quite impressive, especially considering the parking situation at larger schools.
At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, for example, they sell six parking passes for each parking spot they have available for students and at a hefty price, too – several hundred dollars per year. If you are lucky enough to find one of those spots, you have to plan on about a half an hour to walk to class. In short, we at ETSU, who have guaranteed parking at no extra cost to us, should consider ourselves very lucky and quit complaining.
