Hurricane season hits season openers hard for Buc sports.
The ETSU women’s tennis team was ready to open their 2004 season up this weekend in the ETSU Tournament held on campus. Unfortunately, Hurricane Ivan has canceled the event for the women.
The tennis team is not the only ETSU sport affected by the anticipated storms.
Last weekend the men’s tennis team was forced to stay home from their season opener at the Miami International when Frances shut down Florida.
This week the men’s golf team will also be affect be the remnants of Hurricane Ivan. The team was scheduled to play in the Carpet Capital in Dalton, Ga., but weather forecasts predict rain dropping 12 inches on the golf course through Friday.
The Carpet Capital was to be another major tournament for the men’s team to play in. The Carpet Capital features 12 of the nation’s Top 25 teams. This year the University of Florida (1), Clemson (2), Georgia (4), Georgia Tech (6), Oklahoma (8), Texas (9), and TCU (10) were all scheduled to play.
Women’s soccer will also take a hit from the storm this weekend in their game against Radford University. The Lady Bucs were scheduled to play on Sunday at Radford but the game has been rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16.
The men’s golf team will play in the Carpet Capital later on Nov. 5-7.
The women’s tennis tournament will be rescheduled, but a date has not yet been announced.
