With the election drawing near, ETSU organizations are encouraging students and unregistered voters to involve themselves by sponsoring a voter registration event.
The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance at ETSU will be hosting the “Voting is Power” pride party Sept. 27 in the Martha Culp Auditorium from 6 to 9 p.m.
The Women’s Resource Center, department of women’s studies, Volunteer ETSU, BucTainment, Campus Republicans, Campus Democrats, Campus Greens and several other groups are also helping to fund the event.
The event will include musical stylings from Ras Alan and his “dredneck reggae,” Scotty Melton, Rob Russell and the Sore Losers and ETSU’s very own Chef Rick from Main Meal, who will be “rapping the vote.”
Other festivities will include refreshments and door prizes.
“Students are guaranteed to leave informed about their rights, hopefully form a party affiliation and most defiantly more knowledgeable,” said Sally Dillon, publicity chair for the event.
Dillon said FMLA is helping to give everyone their right to vote and the knowledge they need to make their choice. FMLA invites everyone to attend and “make a difference by registering to vote at this event.”
FMLA members are encouraging others to attend Voting is Power and help make the voting experience an exciting affair.
Presently, FMLA is a group of 15 members, though that number is growing. The group meets every Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Cave.
FMLA has also been involved in several other programs including Take Back the Night and health fairs on campus.
