Unfortunately for the Lady Bucs after waiting all Tuesday the final round of the tournament was cancelled because of strong rainstorms.
Monday’s leaderboard standings leave WCU as the winner this year for a record third time.
The Catamounts also won the individual honors with Ashley Hovda’s near record performance.
The ETSU women’s golf team enjoyed good playing at the Wachovia/Great Smokies Women’s Collegiate over fall break this week.
The Lady Bucs finished up the first round on Monday with a fourth place finish, tying with Tennessee Tech University.
The Lady Bucs standouts included Junior Ashley Barton along with Freshman Maria Ringdahl both leading the Lady Bucs in the first round and both shooting one-over-par 73s.
Western Carolina led the field of 24 after the first round of the tournament.
The Catamounts are two-time defending champions of the tournament along with Tennessee Tech who is just off the lead in a two tie for fourth.
WCU shot a 291, three over par on Monday setting a new tournament record in team scoring passing their three previous records.
Hovda, who set a career record and was one stroke off the record for the tournament, led the Lady Catamounts in the first round.
Murray State finished second, shooting a nine-over-par 300. Xavier finished two strokes behind Murray State in third. ETSU and Tennessee Tech rounded out the top five in a tie for fourth at 13 over par.
Leading the Lady Bucs, Barton and Ringdahl were tied at fifth place, a stroke away from second place in individual play. Hovda held a commanding five-stroke lead after an amazing first round of 67, Hovda was the only player to finish the round under par.
Freshman Natalia Giraldo finished up her first round in a six-way tie for 10th. Giraldo shot a two-over-par 74 to finish third on the team in the first round.
Both senior Danielle O’Reilly and junior Kailey Brooks finished with 81s. The pair ended up tying for 77 after the first round.
In all, nine individual and team single-round records were either tied or broken on Monday.
The Catamounts will be led again Tuesday by two-time individual champion Brandy Andersen who is back for her junior year.
This weekend wraps up one of the Lady Bucs best seasons in program history.
By coming in fourth the Lady Bucs got their 10th top five finish in 14 events played.
Also this season the Lady Bucs won their second tournament in program history.
More than anything though, the Lady Bucs excelled at their game, breaking multiple program and tournament records since last spring semester.
The Lady Bucs finished up this season on three top 30 charts in statistics following just over 400 schools nationwide.
The Lady Bucs were 26th in Par 3 scoring, 24th in Par 5 scoring and 21st in total birdies.
Natalia Giraldo leads in Par 3 scoring ranking 11th nationally. Barton is ranked 11th in total birdies to lead the Bucs and Ringdahl is ranked 13th in Par 5 scoring.
The Lady Bucs now have a winter break until late February when they re-open the season at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
ETSU finished fourth out of 24 teams. The Bucs bested Southern Conference foes Elon University and Appalachian State.
The Lady Bucs have 11 top five performances in their last 15 tournaments dating back to last year.
