Now that the madness of basketball’s ‘Big Dance’ over, ETSU has scheduled some choreography of its own, inviting renowned dancer and actress Nakeisha Daniel to share her experiences and expertise with the campus and community.
Daniel will hold a free choreography workshop and discussion today at 7 p.m. in ETSU’s Brown Hall auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Office of Equity and Diversity.
The 22-year-old choreographer and actress – a graduate of Shorter College in Rome, Ga., and current member of Charleston Stage Co. – has starred in Ain’t Misbehavin’, Pump Boys and Dinettes, Unto These Hills, Young Abe Lincoln and The Sound of Music.
She is now performing in the exciting and controversial New York hit Omnium Gatherum in Charleston, S.C.
“Nakeisha comes highly recommended,” said Pat Cronin, ETSU theatre professor and former Basler chair. “We are not only excited to have her on campus to share her love and knowledge of dance and the stage, but also to share her experiences and vision for broadening the diversity of the American stage.”
ETSU theatre faculty are also hoping to bring Daniel back to direct Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf during Black History or Women’s History months.
The workshop and discussion will be free of charge and open to the public.
