Construction is nearly finished at Governors Hall and the Housing and Residence Life Office is taking applications.
This fall, ETSU students will be scrambling for a room in the new residence hall. It will house 542 ETSU students in an attractive, warm and inviting setting, said housing Director Bonnie Burchett. The larger rooms feature large windows and pleasant views of the campus.
Each room in Governors Hall has a separate bathroom and two overhead lights. Several are equipped for students with disabilities, including those with hearing impairments. There are no kitchens, but residents may have microwaves and refrigerators.
The spacious lobby has a gas fireplace and voice-over IP phones with more features. In the building is a classroom, two laundry rooms with an adjacent study room, a large program room with several study rooms per floor, and two large elevators.
The coed residence hall will be open to all ETSU students.
“This will be the first residence hall where males and females will live next door to each other, instead of by floor,” Burchett said. “I think this allows for residents to improve their social and interpersonal skills and there is a greater respect among residents.”
New students are directed to complete an application and make a $100 deposit for Governors Hall.
Current ETSU students may come by the housing office to sign up between Monday, March 26 and Wednesday, March 28.
Move-in dates will be Aug. 23 for ETSU Preview participants and Aug. 24, 25, 26 for all others.
The cost of living in Governors Hall will be higher than other residence halls. It is expected to cost $2,225 per semester, per person, Burchett said.
Governors Hall is not the only project for ETSU. There are other renovations planned for students living on campus.
Renovations at Luntsford Hall will be completed this summer with upgraded bathrooms, kitchens and flooring, new furniture and paint.
Carter Hall will be closed in May for one year while renovations are completed on the heating and air-conditioning systems, plumbing, lighting and electric. New paint and furniture will also be featured in Carter.
Design has begun for a new apartment building to be constructed where McCord and Cooper residence halls are currently located, according to the housing office. The two-bedroom apartments will feature a common living area and kitchenette. They will accommodate 340 students. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2008 and be completed by fall 2009.
