Dear Editor:
In reference to Ben Hughes’ letter of Oct. 4: Ben, you still don’t get it. Even small amounts of cigarette smoke can set off an asthma attack if I breathe it directly even outside. It triggers off a coughing fit, which sometimes requires me to use my inhaler. I have to use a dust mask to keep out the smoke because I do not like asthma attacks.
My daughter smokes, outside at home, and just the smell on her clothes can irritate my lungs somewhat. People who smoke or don’t smoke but don’t have lung disease can’t understand this so we’ll probably continue to have this back and forth and the issue will not get the attention it deserves. I still ask smokers to be courteous and not smoke at the ramps and doorways. Yes, the world is a dangerous place, but I intend to live life to the fullest. So, I will not lay down in an iron lung and give up for anyone, even stubborn smokers.
