Two undefeated intramural football teams battled it out Wednesday night beside the Basler Center for Physical Activity. This was the final game of the season for The Doom Crew and Team Bo Jackson. Both were 3-0 going into the game. Jackson was predicted to win 26-25 because of their fast offense.
The first half was all Doom Crew as they scored first on a nice pass to Mark Skinner. Then they went up 13-0 on a touchdown.
Team Bo Jackson beat the tough defense and scored their first touchdown, bringing the score to 13-6. They only toss in or run for extra points.
The lead grew larger as The Doom Crew scored another touchdown and extra point. With the lead 20-6 at halftime, Crew quarterback Thomas Evely said, “Even though it is a blowout now, we have another half to go. They have the time to come back.”
The first play of the second half was made by The Doom Crew’s Devin Pierce picking the ball off and taking it in for a touchdown. Pierce turned right around and scored the extra point to make the score 27-6. This would be the last score they would get.
Team Bo Jackson scored another touchdown but did not make an extra point.
Ryan Blackwell was all over the field chasing Jackson guys. “The defense is key to our record. We have great defense.”
“Playoffs start next week, so we need to get to get ready for them. It was a great season and we played a tough team today. I mean, we were predicted to lose to these guys, so I would say we did a heck of a job on defense,” Everly said.
“I am really proud of these guys,” Doom Crew coach and player Chris Brown said. “We have been together for a year now and have a great group of guys.”
“Everly is our star player,” Brown said, laughing
The season has been going for a month now, and playoffs start Nov. 4.
