A launch party for the Reach Out and Readr program at ETSU Physicians and Associates-Pediatrics will be held at Barnes & Noble in Johnson City on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 6:30-8 p.m.
Reach Out and Readr is a national initiative aimed at increasing literacy among children by providing them with free books.
ETSU Physicians and Associates-Pediatrics, which is an affiliation of ETSU’s James H. Quillen College of Medicine, has been designated as a Reach Out and Readr site.
The launch event is part of a week-long book fair at Barnes & Noble Nov. 11-17. During that time, Barnes & Noble will donate 10 percent of sales from customers who present a Reach Out and Readr coupon, which will be available at the store, or mention they are shopping to support the program.
Throughout the entire month of November, a Reach Out and Readr display at Barnes & Noble will feature books that can be purchased and donated to the program.
“The community has been very supportive of this project by giving books that are now available in our lobby for kids to read while waiting to see the doctor,” said project organizer Dr. Jessica Tuberty. “We appreciate the support of Barnes & Noble in helping us take this program to the next level.”
Refreshments will be served during the Nov. 13 launch party located on Franklin Terrace Drive in Johnson City.
