Dear Editor:
One must take notice of the animosity that was present toward Matt Bourgault while he fervently stated his deep convictions to the students at ETSU.
Fire was fought back with fire ultimately to the point that the dialogue became repulsive and frivolous by the opposing crowd.
Though many of the views that were presented by Bourgault in Borchuck Plaza were not correct, I believe that no matter what might have been said, there would be guaranteed hostility.
A.W. Tozer brilliantly stated that “Much of our difficulty as seeking Christians stems from our unwillingness to take God as He is and adjust our lives accordingly. We insist upon trying to modify Him and bring Him nearer to our own image.”
It is not scientific evidence that keeps many from disbelieving in God, but a pre-commitment to a philosophy of life.
Christ calls us to deny ourselves and pick up our cross daily and follow Him. Many are not willing to lay aside their lifestyle, and consequently try to bend the Bible and the teachings of Christ to support their personal beliefs.
We are sinful creatures. Regardless of what might “feel right,” if Christ has called us to abstain from certain things such as homosexuality, it doesn’t matter how one might feel; we are to conform our lives around God, not the other way around.
The human race is not here to glorify ourselves but to glorify God alone.
The great C.S. Lewis once said “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.'”
Thankfully because of the mercy of God, He gave us a way to become righteous in the eyes of God by sending His only Son, Jesus Christ, to make a way for us.
