Dear Editor,
As you know, I e-mailed the East Tennessean on April 3rd asking that you print my apology for the error in my last letter that placed responsibility for the concert programming, in part, to Buctainment.
After reading the letter from Buctainment in today’s paper, however, it’s easy to see why, in their own words, “There’s often confusion over this …” because their letter goes on with “For those who are unaware, Buctainment is the ETSU Programming Board …”
This comment is misleading because it implies that they are in charge of campus programming. There are scores of other student organizations that regularly bring programming to ETSU – not to mention ETSU’s visual and performing arts departments, which offer concerts and plays and exhibitions throughout the year. I could go on and on.
Confusion aside, though, to their credit, Buctainment has brought a variety of events to campus such as visiting speakers Chuck D and Henry Rollins.
It’s always inspiring when students are involved in the life of the community, so hats off to Buctainment for that! Ultimately, I think that this problem (as well as the problem of the annual concert) points to a larger, more systemic issue having to do with the various ways that events at ETSU are chosen and publicized to the campus and the greater community.
