Dear Editor,
I have a few short things to say about Ms. Kelsi Wilson’s “Response to Atheist.” First, to say that Mr. Sam Smith’s atheistic moral code necessarily descends from the “original moral code” set forth by God is nonsense.
If that were the case, one would be forced to ignore the writings of Immanuel Kant and David Hume, moral philosophers who outlined moral systems that are wholly detached from a divine directive.
Second, I have a couple answers to the question, “how can you judge a system of beliefs that encompasses billions of people and is thousands of years old based on one group of people who didn’t even reflect the true beliefs of Christianity?” Mr. Smith can only make a judgement of Christianity based on his experience with it, right? I think that it is important for devout and “true” believers of Christianity such as yourself to confront those groups that portray a poor image of your faith.
Without their misrepresentation of the focus of forgiveness, maybe people like Mr. Smith would be more attracted to your faith.
