I imagine by now that we all have acquired our overpriced textbooks that will only be used for 13 weeks out of our broke, college student lives. New students and freshmen are running around campus in a frenzy to find classes, some of us are attending Greek life meetings and others are darting to the Culp Center for some Chik-fil-A.
There are 20 other things we are trying to accomplish with no time to slow down. However, fall season has hit. So listen up, people.
Of course, every new season means different ways of dressing. Neon-colored tanks and flowy summer dresses look great against sun-kissed skin, but now they need to be stowed away.
Try replacing them with bright cardigans and thin wool dresses, which can be worn to both casual and formal events.
By doing this, you are still able to wear bright colors. And cute dresses always make for a highly commented facebook photo.
When it comes to buying fall pieces, do not scramble to use your debit card for the first sweater or cardigan that you see. Just like that philosophy paper you have due, your clothing choices should be researched too.
J.Crew is known for its classy and stylish look. It is the best option for the perfectly tailored suit, sweaters, ballet flats and basic tees. However, these stylish looks do come with a high price – about $68 dollars for a simple cardigan.
Luckily for us, J. Crew also has outlet stores, and the closest one is in Pigeon Forge. Sometimes you can find the cardigan you saw two months ago, plus the basic tee to match, all for half the cost of one full-priced cardigan.
Of course, you can’t wear that new cardigan without the right kind of jeans. Have your favorite skinny jeans faded from excessive wear? Avoid paying full prices for jeans from Abercrombie & Fitch or American Eagle by checking out their clearance sections. I guarantee there is an identical pair for $50 dollars cheaper.
There is no need to pay $98 for jeans with two strategically placed rips in the knees when the clearance section has a pair with two small rips for about $39.
Having offered some tips for buying fall’s most important pieces, I want to share one of my recent finds.
The store Buckle has the coolest leather bracelet called the “Humanity Happy Days Wrap Bracelet.”
These are metallic, leather and rhinestone bracelets that are embossed with phrases like: “forgive,” “live in unity” and “speak kindness.”
They come in a variety of colors from white to neon green, and they are for both women and men.
They cost $30, but proceeds from the sales help support Haiti. Even if you do not like bracelets, buy one for someone who does.
Thirty dollars might seem like a lot, but for a country that values water and food like we value the Superbowl and iPhones, it is very little.
Between your academics and that minimum-wage job you dread going to every other day, try to weed out the do’s and don’ts of your closet for this fall season.
Try to add a new piece of jewelry to your collection. Appearance might mean nothing to some but everything to others.
Just keep in mind that your appearance could be the determining factor in whether you land your dream job or not – the dream job that you’re going to school for right now.
