Dear Editor,I’m sure I am not the first person to ask you this, nor will I be the last, but did the writer of “‘High’ Society” actually attend the “Heads vs. Feds” debate?
Amlan states that “… Hager defend(ed) his stance on legalization by citing … money used for funding corruption in other other (sic) countries, as well as organized crime. Marijuana is America’s leading cash crop.”
Hager’s main points were actually medicinal applications, the positive environmental impact that using hemp would have (i.e. hemp paper instead of cutting down trees, hemp oil for ink, etc.), and the overcrowding of jails.
He mentioned in passing the profits funding organized crime, but he far from focused on it.
As for Stutman, he supposedly, “… cited the belief that marijuana is a gateway drug, which he also said it (sic) has an adverse effect on the human brain.”
Although he never once brought it up himself, he did touch upon one of those points.
Stutman, when asked, stated that he did not consider marijuana a gateway drug. He said that the major “gateway drug” in this country is tobacco.
While I appreciate the comedic value of our “newspaper” here at ETSU, I would prefer articles that I could take pride in as a student.
