Dear Editor,I would simply like to remind my fellow students that we are responsible for the safety of each and every student at ETSU.

We all share the equal right to respect, and our campus will never be truly safe until we embrace that concept.

The statistics on sexual assault on our campus are disgustingly high and I am appalled at how little attention is given to this serious subject.

Rape is not a mythical event. It happens every day to our friends, family and fellow students.

Of course, it is easier to pretend like it only happens in movies, but pretending a problem doesn’t exist simply perpetuates the issue.

I would like to see every man and woman on our campus take back our respect for ourselves and for each other.

Take a stand, report a problem, make yourself and your peers accountable.

If we can join together to fight the statistics, we will make a difference to this campus and to each and every person affected by sexual assault.

Nothing would make me feel more proud to attend ETSU than seeing our campus become a safer, more respectful environment.
