This semester’ s SGA Major Event will feature Maroon 5, OneRepublic and Ry Cuming at ETSU’ s Memorial Center on Monday, Oct. 25. The concert will be a “closed show” for students and accompanying guests at least 18 years old, and no student or faculty member can bring more than three non-ETSU guests to the performance.

Ticket distribution began Oct. 11 for students, and begins today for faculty and staff. Tickets will be distributed until the day of the concert.

Tickets are being distributed from Ticket Booth 1 on the second floor of the Culp Center from 8:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Each student can pick up one free ticket, and the guest tickets for the allotted three can be purchased for $10 each.

Faculty and staff do not receive free admission, but they can purchase up to four tickets for $10 each.

“I think it’ s a great idea to have Maroon 5 coming to our school,” said student Camille Romer. “It’s awesome that students can go for free because otherwise it would cost 50 bucks or more to see them somewhere else. I think it also helps promote the school, because I remember when I was at orientation one of the things I was really happy about was the free concerts with well-known artists.”

Some students, however, are a little more critical of the concert. “The student body could have picked better people,” said Kayla Hardin. But even she said she would still be attending.

Overall, it seems Maroon 5 and the bands touring alongside them will at least be met with enthusiasm from most of the student body, if not avid excitement.

“Their songs don’ t make up the bulk of my iTunes library or anything,” said sophomore Erin Jennifer, “but I’m definitely excited to go see Maroon 5 and OneRepublic this fall.”

Freshman Michael Deel said, “I’m really looking forward to the concert. Maroon 5 is a pretty good band, as well as OneRepublic, though I can’t say I’ve heard of Ry Cuming. Either way, the event will draw lots of attention and lots of students, and that alone will present a chance for students to get to know one another and meet new people.”

The ticket sales in this case speak for themselves.

“The floor section sold out on the first day,” said Student Government Association Secretary of External Affairs Pratik Govan. “We’ ve never had that happen before.”

Govan explained how write-in suggestions were taken for upcoming concerts, and how those suggestions were then voted on in a preference survey given to the student body.

“Students rank them and we try to get whoever’s on top.”

And it looks like Maroon 5 made the cut for this Monday night.
