The Climbing Club will be sponsoring a competition at the Basler Center for Physical Activity this Saturday, Nov. 20. The contest will be open to the public and students. Climbing Club President Addie Roberts says the competition is mainly an event to raise funds for club trips and competitions and to give climbers a chance to come out and compete.

The club has had success with this event in the past. At previous events, about 40 people have participated or come out to watch the climbers.

“The best part about climbing competitions is that they are so relaxed,” said Roberts.

“Everyone supports everyone else when they are climbing, and it’s not really about who wins, but just that everyone has a good time.”

There will be competition for all levels of climbers. It will consist of divisions for both male and female, at levels of recreational, intermediate and advanced.

The Climbing Club consists of about 30 active members who compete indoors and outdoors all over the country.

“Last weekend, several members took a trip to Steele, Ala., for an outdoor bouldering competition,” said Roberts, whose club puts on several climbing events throughout the year.

Registration is Saturday, Nov. 20 from 9-9:45 a.m. and the climb will start at 10 a.m. The event admission price is $20 for ETSU students and $25 for non-students.
