A bittersweet feeling comes with each release of a new Harry Potter film. As someone who has attended the midnight release for each movie and novel since being able to stay out at midnight, I always dread the imminent final release, the loss of anticipation – the void in my heart from the emptiness of no longer going to a collective gathering of people who share a love for this epic legend that our generation has shared.

That being said, I was able to enjoy the release of the first part of the final movie, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” knowing that afterward I would still have something to look forward to months from now.

Also as a generation, I feel as though we have grown up with these characters. As years have gone by, the characters have grown up, and the actors and actresses have really grown into their roles as these witches and wizards that we have grown to love from the books.

“Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows,” directed by David Yates, is the first movie in which the characters do not return to Hogwarts.

Instead, Harry and the gang are focused on finding Horcruxes, (pieces of Voldemort’s soul) so that they may finally defeat the dark wizard.

The film takes place in dark times, and even the Muggle world is being affected. While finding the Horcruxes, he discovers the existence of the three most powerful objects in the wizarding world that combine to create the Deathly Hallows.

Some fans may be critical of the final novel being made into two parts, but I, however, think it’s brilliant. With it being in two pieces, it allows the movies to bring more from the story onto the big screen.

The film also has just the right amount of suspense as well as humor.

I was more filled with joy from this movie than from any previous Potter film, or for that matter, from any other movie I’ve seen this year.

The suspense was so great that I was on the edge of my seat about 90 percent of the time, but the humor in all the right places from the story’s unique and lovable characters was just enough to take the edge off.

The epic journey throughout the movie tells a tale of friendship, love, struggle, self-doubt, fear and so much more.

In short, this is a great movie.

Whether you’re a Potter fan or not, I would highly recommend the movie to anyone looking for a refreshing new film to see.
