Dear editor:It has come to my attention this semester that this newspaper’s claim in every issue that “The editor will publish all letters (yes, even the opinions that do not express those of the editors of the East Tennessean)that are not beyond grammatical repair,” is a false one.

I know of at least three instances (none of which involved myself) of letters written that were not published.

As they were far from beyond grammatical repair, it would seem the only reason is in fact that the editors disagreed with them.

It is a shame that a student run newspaper would choose to censor its peers, particularly when its writing is the highest quality I’ve seen in my four years here.

I’ll be interested to see if this letter makes it into the next issue, but I’m not too hopeful.
