Roses are red, violets are blue, Valentine’s Day is fun, but expensive, too. If this poem sounds like your Valentine’s Day predicament, I am here to help. For years, men have tried to get around dropping loads of cash on their girl, just weeks after getting burned by Christmas.

Have you ever heard of the saying “It’s the thought that counts?” Now, more than ever, this remains true.

With a little creativity, and some help from local restaurants in town, your significant other will think you spent weeks planning out the night. The first step to having a good date night is flowers. These don’t need to be an expensive bouquet from the florist, but a dozen roses from Kroger will go a long way toward making your date memorable.

Most superstore flower arrangements can be found for close to $10.

Next, you need to decide on a place to eat. If your girl is hungry for pizza, check out Johnny Brusco’s near the mall.

They offer slices of cheese pizza for $1 on Mondays. If pizza isn’t your thing, try Amigo’s either by the hospital or near Old Navy. On Mondays they offer their tacos for 75 cents.

Want to put a fire in your significant other’s stomach? Alley Cats has their delicious hot wings on sale for 35 cents.

After the main course, you will need a dessert to top it off with.

Dairy Queen has introduced their new Mini Blizzard, which is a smaller size of the too-big-to-eat regular blizzard. What is also mini, convenient enough for us, is the price.

Depending on the location, you can pick one up for less than $3 after tax. To end the night, there is no better way to relax than with a movie.

Real to Reel, located on the north side of town, offers the same theater setting you will find in larger chains. What separates them from the others, however, is the $3 price tag attached to their movies.

The last thing that guys everywhere need to do to cap off a perfect night is to tell their girl they love her (and mean it, if applicable!)

The last step of the date will get you more brownie points than any others, combined. Hopefully all the couples of ETSU are going to have a great night, without breaking the bank.
