I hadn’t heard anything going into this movie. Actually, it was very much “unknown” to me.But I have to admit, that factor made the film that much more interesting.
If you’re looking for a thriller that will boggle your mind almost as much as “Inception,” I recommend seeing the new release, “Unknown.”
Liam Neeson plays the part of a Dr. Martin Harris, who arrives in Berlin for a biotechnology conference with his wife Liz, played by January Jones.
Only things don’t go as planned when he realizes he forgets his briefcase at the airport, and finds himself in a life-threatening car accident on the way there.
Being the only passenger in the taxi, where the driver was an illegal alien, Harris finds himself very much alone and confused when waking up from his four-day coma in the hospital.
Typical film where someone has a coma and doesn’t remember his life, right?
Wrong. He remembers his wife and who he is, and even has flashbacks of happy memories moments after waking up.
However, no one is there for him in the hospital when he wakes up. Upon walking out against doctor’s wishes and finding his wife and finds the conference event he was supposed to attend in the first place, nobody remembers who he is.
And even though he has extensive memories of being Dr. Martin Harris, there is another Dr. Martin Harris at the event, who is married to Liz, and seems to be living his life in his place.
After almost finding himself arrested when trying to prove who he is, he re-admits himself to the hospital in beliefs that he is crazy, except something happens at the hospital that makes him realize it is actually a big conspiracy.
From this point on, the whole venture becomes an epic battle of trying to recapture memories, clues and trying to avoid the people who are out to get him.
Along the way, the Harris tracks down the taxi driver, Gina, played by Diane Kruger, who becomes about the only person he can trust throughout the whole experience.
I’ll stop with the plot synopsis here as to not give anything away, but I will say that the film will have you jumping in your seat while watching it and watching your back on the streets after you leave.
“Unknown” is an epic thriller with an interesting plot. It’ll leave you asking, “Is this guy crazy?” “Why would anyone go to this much trouble to pretend to be him?” and “How many taxi cabs are they really going to crash in this movie?”
“Unknown” is a confusing movie while it’s being seen, but in the end everything comes together in a well-thought out plot, and it’s well worth the high ticket price to go see.
