The ETSU men’s golf team will play in the Puerto Rico Classic at the end of this month.
The tournament takes place from Feb. 22-23 in San Juan.
Earlier this month, the Bucs finished the Jones Cup Invitational at the Ocean Forrest Golf Club very high up the list with several excellent performances.
The three players who attended the Jones Cup were senior Rhys Pugh and juniors Adrian Meronk and Chris Hickman.
They finished in the top 15 at a tournament that featured more than 80 golfers.
Thirteen countries were represented at the Jones Cup.
This shows the dominant form of the ETSU team for all three golfers to post such high scores in a lineup full of talent.
Mateusz Gradecki, a sophomore on the team, felt that the team’s performance at the Jones Cup would continue into Puerto Rico.
“We’re getting better as a team,” Gradecki said. “Three guys played in the Jones Cup about a week ago, and they did well. So, this could be our season. We’re practicing as a team and trying to get competitive again and qualify.”
Last year, the Bucs played at the same course they will be on at the end of this month.
The course in particular is different because it is shorter than other courses and thus will require less power and more precision.
Having competed there last year, the team will expect to perform better and post lower scores.
“We played there last year at exactly the same course, so we know what to expect,” Gradecki said.
With the team’s performance at the Jones Cup and the last few invitationals, it hopes to continue its great run of form and put in a strong showing at the Puerto Rico Classic.
