ETSU Public Safety received a report Feb. 10 from a female student who said she was robbed between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Feb. 8 while walking between buildings J and K at Buccaneer Ridge Apartments.

The student said a small red Sedan was following her.

The student said the assailant then got out of the car, pulled a knife, demanded her belongings and drove away in the same car.

The student said the suspect was a black male who was about 6 feet tall and weighed about 175 pounds.

ETSU’s Chief Communications Officer Joe Smith said ETSU Public Safety will be taking the lead on the investigation.

“As always, we’re partners with all of our regional personnel, and we do communicate and share information as needed,” Smith said.

“But for now the investigation will be led by the ETSU Public Safety office.”

Smith said the university has increased security in the area the robbery occurred.

“Our message to students is if they have been a victim of a crime that we do want them to report it no matter if it’s in time or not,” Smith said. “What we’re doing now is taking the information that we have, and we’re just moving forward with that.”
