Buccaneer students experienced a six day weekend with school being out Monday through Thursday due to snow.
Several ETSU teams had to reschedule events in order to accommodate the cancelations. Women’s tennis was scheduled to travel to South Carolina and face Winthrop University, but the match had to be cancelled because of road and court conditions.
The team had come off the first loss of the season against Mississippi State and was looking to recover, but will have to wait. They will play Akron away on Feb. 27 to continue their season.
The softball team was to participate in the Austin Peay tournament this past weekend before every game was cancelled.
There was a five team field in the tournament including Austin Peay, IPFW, South Dakota State, Wright State and ETSU.
The Lady Bucs, who have won five of their last six matches, will continue play on Feb. 28 as they host Morehead State and Canisius in the Holiday Inn Classic. The tournament will be the first home action for ETSU this season.
The Women’s and Men’s basketball teams were still able to compete on their set dates along with the men’s golf team.
The golf team is currently in Puerto Rico enduring chilly 76 degree weather and competing well in the competition.
The extended break from active play for many athletics teams can either be a positive or negative factor in their upcoming matches.
Many teams can take this time to rest, recover and prepare and it can be positive for their form.
However, it is possible that the time the teams had could allow them to become more complacent and decrease their performance in the next game.
As the snow break comes to an end, many ETSU teams will return to play and hope to continue their solid performances from last week.
