Ruth Wyand will perform her “Mama’s Got the Blues” multimedia concert in the D. P. Culp University Center Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Thursday with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Wyand is a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist who is inspired by the traditional American roots to music such as blues, jazz and rock and roll.

The show will feature a live onstage musical performance by Wyand and will also incorporate film footage by filmmaker Jean Antolini.

Wyand and Antolini express their music and film through a radio-type experience to show how women influenced America’s rich Blues history.

Throughout the concert, Wyand will feature songs by female Blues artists from the early 1900s.

The purpose is to remember Blues artists like Billie Holiday, Memphis Minnie, Nina Simone, Bessie Smith and Bonnie Raitt and more, who have been overlooked throughout the years.

The concert is sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center as part of Women’s History Month and is free and open to the public.
