ETSU has a winning tradition in the basketball program.
The school has had many teams make it to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 13-seed pushing No. 4-seed Cincinnati to the limit.
However, that winning season was in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Since leaving the Atlantic Sun Conference, ETSU’s former head coach Murry Bartow didn’t have the success of rejoining the SoCon.
With new head coach Steve Forbes, the Bucs look much more capable of competing in the conference on a yearly basis.
Despite a lack of early success in the SoCon, the move to the conference was good for ETSU. It allowed the program to get more players in the Tennessee area by having more competition with teams in the region.
Joining the SoCon wasn’t a move ETSU had to make for the soccer program; it has consistently shown it can win in either conference.
The move for the baseball program hasn’t been what they were hoping.
It has had back-to-back losing seasons since joining the SoCon after going 27-30 in the 2013-2014 final season in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Since then, the team went 21-35 in the 2014-2015 season in the SoCon.
The Bucs will look to step up to the competition of the SoCon to show that they belong in the conference, and with the team they have this season, they should be very capable of winning more games.
Since joining the SoCon, the Bucs’ volleyball team has been consistent. Since leaving the Atlantic Sun Conference, it has yet to have a losing record.
The Bucs still win 16 or more games a season and this season finished 19-12 and 9-7 in the conference.
The only thing that has changed since leaving the Atlantic Sun Conference is that they were winning 10 or more games in conference play.
The Bucs this season showed that they can play at the level of play in the SoCon.
Joining the SoCon was a good move for the women’s volleyball program; the team is still recruiting very well since joining the conference.
