Same place, different race.

On Oct. 28, the Southern Conference Cross Country Championships were held at Camp Jordan Arena in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

ETSU’s men’s and women’s teams finished in third place.

The men’s team was led by Simeon Roberts. Roberts recorded his season-best time with 24:15.10 to give him seventh place. He earned First Team All-SoCon honors and earned postseason All-SoCon recognition.

Teammates James Garst, Adam Bradtmueller, Carl Oberfeitinger and Matthew Warriner contributed to the ETSU men’s team’s performance. Garst finished in 15th place, Bradtmueller in 17th, Oberfeitinger in 26th and Warriner in 30th. All five runners finished in the top 30.

These performances gave ETSU 93 total points and third place overall.

Samford finished runner-up and Furman won first place for their fourth year straight.

For the women’s team, Katie Hirko led the team with a time of 17:54.79 and 15th place overall.

Following Hirko was Victoria Hutchens in 21st place, Mary Carrier in 22nd with a season-best time of 18:15.88, Nicki Smith in 29th and Kaitlyn Lay finishing the Bucs top five runners with 31st place.

Together the women scored 111 total points and finished in third place. This is the highest the women have scored in the Southern Conference since 1999 and the highest finish in a conference meet since leaving the Atlantic Sun.

Samford took second and Furman won first place for the fourth straight year.

The Bucs will next head to Tallahassee, Florida to compete in the NCAA South Region Championship at Apalachee Regional Park on Nov. 11.
