On Friday, Feb. 1, ETSU’s student programming board for entertainment will host Retro Gaming Night on the first floor of the Basler Center for Physical Activity from 5-9 p.m.

This event is part of an unusual twist on their annual Winter Cruise celebration that will throw students back to the ‘80s and ‘90s for a night of retro games, food, films and fun.

“Every year, Buctainment has hosted a Culp-wide event called Winter Cruise with various themes,” said Taryn Clark, secretary of Buctainment. “With the Culp under renovation, we are putting a spin on Winter Cruise.”

Retro Gaming Night will consist of a poolside dive-in movie screening of the beloved ‘90s classic “Space Jam,” traditional board and strategy games such as Magic the Gathering, a retro costume party and a scavenger hunt. There will also be booths hosted by various student organizations from 5-7 p.m. Any organization that would like to participate and host a retro game or sign-up for a booth should contact the SORC.

“These events have been a great opportunity for student organizations and offices to showcase upcoming events, recruit new members and welcome students back to campus for an exciting spring semester,” said Clark.

The special guest of the night will be the mentalist Mat Lavore who specializes in magic, mind-reading and hypnosis. Lavore will begin his performance at 7:30 p.m. Students from ETSU’s Department of Music and Appalachian Studies will also be performing.

In addition, many of the CPA’s usual functions will still be available, such as the basketball courts, climbing wall, yoga and more. Some activities have been given a fun, retro spin, such as Glow in the Dark Yoga.
