The ETSU men’s golf team participated in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate event, which consisted of three days from Oct. 11-13. The Bucs competed against fourteen other teams, such as Tennessee and Ole Miss.
The Bucs first day of events came away with placing sixth overall, with a score of 281, going 7-under-par. Junior Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tennessee), concluded his day with 5-under-par, tying for forth and an overall score of 67. Junior Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) also had a good outing tying at 19 with a score of 70 and finishing with 2-under-par.
Three Bucs tied for 39, freshman Archie Davis (Carlisle, England), junior Austin Carter (Kingsport, Tennessee) and redshirt senior Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Florida). All finished with an even par and a score of 72.
The Bucs took the momentum from the previous day and turned it into a strong showing during day of the event, finishing number one and setting a record tying 269-under-par. The record was previously held by Virginia in 2016.
Rhea finished number one in the leaderboards with a finish of 9-under-par 63, finishing with a score of 130. Davis had a big day, climbing up the leaderboards and placing fourth overall after tying with teammates the previous day at 39. Davis concluded his day with a score of 65 and 7-under-par. Go also finished in the top 10, placing at eight. Go finished with a 4-under-par 68.
The Bucs concluded the event, placing second overall and Rhea taking the number one spot. As a team, the Bucs finished with a score of 835 and going 29-under-par. Rhea claimed the number one spot and his first individual championship, finishing the tournament 15-under-par and a score of 201.
“I am really happy with the tournament, and you always want to win,” said head coach Jake Amos, according to the ETSU Athletics webpage.
The Bucs golf team continue action in Alpharetta, Georgia, Oct. 18-20 for the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Tournament.
