Several Johnson City boutiques hit the runway in the Reece Museum on Thursday to show young fashionistas just what they had to offer.
The fashion show was put together by students taking a fashion advertising and promotion class as part of the merchandising concentration housed in the Department of Management and Marketing, as well as members of Science Hill High School’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter.
The fashion show is held once a year and takes students roughly two months to plan. The event was sponsored by businesses including Monkee’s, Ta’Vie Boutique, J. Jill, Hut8, Azlinn Hope Boutique, Chico’s, Jenny Lea Academy, Sugar Salon and Longhorn.
Student models were dressed head-to-toe in clothing from each boutique, complete with hair and makeup done by students at Jenny Lea Academy, and then strutted across the empty floor in front of an audience. The name of the boutique that each model was dressed by was displayed on a screen behind them, so audience members knew exactly where to go to pick up their favorite runway outfits. A model call was held via social media and flyers displayed across campus.
The fashion show is a community service project created to help local Johnson City boutiques and clothing stores showcase their merchandise to high school and college-aged students in the area, as well as give fashion advertising students hands-on experience.
The show won the 2019 Overall Program of the Year award during the Spring 2019 Distinguished Students and Leaders Summit.
