The women’s tennis team traveled to Tallahassee, Florida, over the weekend to conclude their fall season competing in the Seminole All Conference Showdown. ETSU was met with success while contending with 16 other teams in their last tournament of the year. The tournament was Nov. 8 to 10.

The Bucs shined in doubles play. Sophomore Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) and junior Alejandra Morales came away with a victory in the Katie Rybakova Doubles event, sweeping the competition over MSU 6-0, UCF 6-3 and UNF 7-6 (7),

Freshmen Marija Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) teamed up with sophomore Yunen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and competed in the Federica Suess Doubles. Carvajal and Elizarraras won both matches 6-3 and fell in the last round to Wisconsin’s Pick and Tudor 6-2.

The Bucs also saw success in singles competition. Carvajal took the crown in the Alice Reen Female Singles event, sweeping the sets with three straight wins. Amaro pushed through the Buffy Bake Female Singles after winning twice over UNF and USC but fell in the final set against FSU’s Hule 6-2, 6-2, giving her the second-place spot.

Morales and Elizarraras each picked up two wins in their respective events in the Ali Weber Female Singles and the Ana Oparenovic Female Singles. Senior Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) picked a sole walk over win over FSU’s Hill.

With a strong finish to the fall season, the Bucs set their agendas to the upcoming spring season.

“We have a tremendous group of girls this year,” says head coach Ricardo Rojas.

The Bucs have a ton of experience on the team with Pascual-Larrinaga leading as senior. Carvajal is the only freshman with Amaro, Elizarraras and Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) as sophomores and Morales holding the sole junior spot.

The Bucs return to action in the new year, starting on the road at North Carolina State University on Jan. 15.
