The new campus location of Cootie Brown’s is offering some student approved options on its menu along with daily specials, possible ETSU events and later hours.
Holding new hours seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the new Cootie Brown’s is open and ready to be a part of the campus community. Currently, the restaurant is not offering any ETSU discounts but does want to attract its student guests.
“In the future we’ll start working out a College Day, but for right now we just want to focus on getting open and getting our feet wet,” said Cootie Brown’s’ General Manager Logan Hines. “We’ve talked about doing tailgating parties when ETSU has games – things like that – but nothing has been put down officially on a record yet.”
With the new location came additional items on the menu including smoked tamales, fiesta tamales and conch fritters. The house smoker, or Pit Master, makes an appearance in the lobby for questions about the barbecue and to hand out samples while he’s smoking.
“We also offer all of our tamales with our Grab-and-Go,” Hines said. “So, you can take some; take it back to your dorm [and] fix it in your microwave. On Mondays we do $5 off all of our large pizzas, so that’s really convenient.”
Cootie Brown’s also holds an everyday happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m., offering all day happy hour on Mondays, margaritas on Tuesdays, wine Wednesdays, a draft sampler on Thursdays, “flirt-ini” Fridays, Sangria on Saturdays, and tops off the week with a Bloody Mary bar and brunch.
Hines also said they are flexible with students’ schedules. Most positions since opening have been filled, but they are still accepting applications.
“We employ a lot of college students, mostly from ETSU where we’re across the street, but we don’t do like mid-shifts, so sometimes that’s an issue,” said Hines. “We do a.m. shifts from 10 to 4 and p.m. shifts from 5 to 10.”
