The ETSU women’s track and field team competed at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They took three runners and two throwers to represent the Bucs.

“The goal is resting our teams for the mental part of competition, while still obviously training this week,” said head coach George Watts. “Sometimes you need a break. You can’t compete every weekend.”

The runners —  sophomore Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tennessee) red-shirt sophomore-junior Lindsey Stallworth (Knoxville, Tennessee) and junior Makayla Shaw (Johnson City, Tennessee) — competed on Friday.

Schwarz came in with the best time of the three runners with 5:03.13, finishing eighth place. Stallworth and Shaw were not far behind with Stallworth receiving 13th place and Shaw receiving 23rd place.

Coach Watts also brought two throwers: junior Atlantis Warren (Memphis, Tennessee) and junior Symphony Buxton (Knoxville, Tennessee). Both Warren and Buxton took a top spot on the podium on Friday.

“Training has been going pretty good,” said Warren. “I have no complaints. It’s been a progression. I’ve seen a lot of improvement from now to what I was doing the first day of my official signing.”

Buxton came in with the ninth-best mark in the event and sixth place out of those who were attached to a school. Warren finished in 18th place, throwing an 11.50m toss in a field of 44.

“I have been working on getting the technique down because throwing is very technique heavy,” said Warren. “It is good to have strength, but ultimately it does come down to technique.”

There are two meets next weekend: Feb. 14 and 15. The team will split up with some going to the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, and the rest going to the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Southern Conference Championships starts Feb. 29.
