Americana group, Lovers Leap, will be performing at the The Willow Tree Coffeehouse & Music Room for a Valentine’s Day show, but this event is for everyone, not just couples.
“We also want to make sure everyone knows this isn’t a couples only kind of event,” Willow Tree owner Teri Dosher said. “We want to celebrate everyone, including those who are single.”
Lovers Leap is a recently formed band that consists of Shelby Means (bass, guitar, vocals), Mary Lucey (banjo, bass, vocals), Joel Timmons (guitar, drums, vocals) and Billy Cardine (dobro, vocals). The group released their self-titled debut EP, “Lovers Leap,” last April with their hit single “Walnut Tree,” which was chosen by NPR for the Slingshot Public Radio’s Emerging Artist spotlight. The music style coincides with the environment that The Willow Tree tries to create, especially on Valentine’s Day, according to Dosher.
“We are a very casual place,” Dosher said. “That’s one of the things I love about our space is how often single people feel comfortable coming alone.”
The band, outside of having a casual and soothing sound, is notable for their individual success. Means was Grammy nominated for her performance in Della Mae, a band that shared the stage with Willie Nelson and The Avett Brothers. Lucey garnered international attention with her vocal range as a founding member of the Biscuit Burners. Timmons played beside Bruce Hornsby, Levon Helm and Michael Franti as a member of Sol Driven Train. Cardine was also a founding member of the Biscuit Burners and has been labeled as a slide guitar pioneer.
“We host music events several times a week,” Dosher said. “But this was a fun coincidence as this one happens to fall on Valentine’s night, and the group just so happens to be called Lovers Leap.”
Dosher added that there is no theme to the night, so patrons don’t have to wear any special attire. The show will start at 8 p.m., and tickets will cost $12 for advance tickets with prices going up to $15 on the day of the show.
“We want everyone to know this will be the same environment, and don’t feel bad about being single,” Dosher said. “Come celebrate Singles Awareness Day, too!”
