ETSU Health announced Tuesday that it will provide community testing for the Coronavirus at 325 North State of Franklin Road in the parking lot.
Citizens must pre-register by calling ETSU Health’s Coronavirus line at 423-433-6110 in order to be tested. At that time, patients will also be pre-screened over the phone.
Tests are currently limited, so the community is encouraged to only visit if they have symptoms resembling the disease: fever, cough and shortness of breath. Screening is available to insured and uninsured patients.
The testing site is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The testing hotline can be reached from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The site will function as a drive-through clinic. Patients must have functioning car windows, and they will be given a mask and gloves upon arrival, according to an email statement by Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs Sheri Holmes to the ETSU community.
Holmes stated that patients’ results should be available within 72 hours, during which the patient will be asked to self-quarantine. Patients will be notified of their results, and any positive tests for Coronavirus will be sent to the local health department.
Each patient will also be tested for influenza.
Dr. Jonathan Moorman, ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, was recently named to Tennessee’s Coronavirus Task Force by Gov. Bill Lee.
“Our goal is to slow down the spread of the coronavirus enough so that we do not overwhelm our health care community, as has been the case in other countries,” Moorman said. “Providing these tests will empower our community with more knowledge – and less panic.”
Updates will be provided at easttennessean.com as they come available.
