In an email to ETSU students Wednesday, as well as in an email to faculty and staff, ETSU President Brian Noland announced that the university will be closed Oct. 5-6 to provide ETSU community members with a short break.
“These days are being provided as our way of saying thank you and as an opportunity for you to rest and rejuvenate in anticipation for the remainder of the fall 2020 semester,” Noland said in the email.
This decision was based on the recommendation of senior leadership, according to the email. During these two days, classes will not meet and offices will be closed.
This break does not apply to students scheduled for clinical rotations, students with scheduled community educational activities such as student teaching or internships or students in the Quillen College of Medicine or Gatton College of Pharmacy – all of whom should continue their current academic schedule as planned.
Faculty and staff working in a clinical environment or precepting students on clinical rotations may use the two administrative days at a later time, as long as they are used by February 28, 2021.
Noland reminds students, faculty and staff in the emails to still observe COVID-19 safety precautions, such as wearing face-coverings and social distancing, during their time off.
“I am deeply proud to be part of the ETSU,” Noland said. “Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do for this amazing institution. Best wishes for a wonderful fall semester.”
