With safety as a priority, Campus Recreation is set for a big fall.

“Our goal is to provide people a place to recreate,” said Kari Albarado, Director of Campus Recreation, “but to be able to do that in the safest way possible.”

“Right now face coverings are required as you enter the facility and move about the facility,” Albarado continued.

The Wayne G. Basler Center for Physical Activity, or CPA, is open seven days per week, with specific hours available on Campus Recreation’s website.

In-person group fitness classes are back for the first time in over a year. All classes are free for members and can be registered online.

“We have Cycle, Zumba, yoga classes happening in-person,” said Albarado.

Intramural sports leagues for ETSU students, faculty and staff have also returned. Registration for the intramural slow-pitch softball league is open now.

“After that, we will have flag football, and we will be ending the semester with our intramural volleyball league,” said Albarado.

Campus Recreation also oversees the Outdoor Adventure program. Outdoor Adventure accommodates a variety of outdoor trips including hiking, paddle-boarding and biking, as well as the challenge course on campus, and the climbing wall in the CPA. There is still a masking protocol for the transportation arm of these trips, but not while outdoors.

“Being in a van with a lot of people, you want to make sure you’re taking safety precautions,” said Albarado. “But, when we’re outdoors, and we’re able to hike and do things that are in open air, masks will not be required, in alignment with other ETSU policies.”
