The ETSU mobile app once consisted of two separate apps, with one for safety and another for the most commonly used sites, D2L and Gold Link. The designs were not modern or user-friendly for students and faculty who downloaded them.

ITS noticed these problems and began designing and solving the issues with one single app, which holds all the features from before but is now more accessible for the user.

The updated version still contains all the features that were on the former ETSU Safe app, including emergency call, friend walk and tip reports. These features now being on one main app makes it much easier for students who need these links while on campus.

The new design also has a slide out menu with user-friendly categories for navigating through the app, such as library services with chat features, campus maps, parking and Bucshot routes. The app also has information about what is happening on campus with calendar links, ETSU athletic events, campus recreation, ID Bucs and many more options that can be completely personalized.

Stephen Fields in Web Technology Services commented, “ITS wanted to take advantage of new technology. The app was developed with a company called App Armor, which specializes in higher education and mobile safety applications.”

While the app still holds the links to Gold Link, D2L and university email as it did before, the company developers made it more accessible and modern for the current time. App Armor also redesigned the logo to give it a modern look as well.

ITS and web services here at ETSU are determined to create a cleaner and easier student experience online every day, and they are doing so with the newly completed app.  The ETSU campus wide app is available to download on any mobile device or computer and is completely accessible for all faculty and students who wish to do so.
