BucWild is back and better than ever at ETSU. BucWild is a program created by students for students with the purpose of promoting school pride and spirit at athletic events.

“We have two years of people that really don’t know what Buccaneer athletics looks like, whether its freshmen that are new on the scene or sophomores that, because of COVID have yet to come to most games,” said Rebecca Eubanks (Johnson City, Tennessee) an intern for BucWild. “So, we are through the process of cultivating school pride by getting people out there, seeing what sports they like, letting them experience new things, and just backing our athletes is the biggest thing.”

BucWild’s first event is Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Summers-Taylor Stadium for the men’s soccer game against Radford. The game will start at 7 pm, and students who arrive early and sign up for BucWild before kickoff will get a chance at a free BucWild shirt.

Not only will you find BucWild at games, but they will be tailgating before football games as well. The program covers all sports at ETSU, and signing up will offer unique opportunities for students. At football games, the “BucWild” zone will be sectioned off for the first three rows closest to the field.

“What I enjoy the most about being an intern with BucWild is gaining real-life experience working with the amazing staff and athletes! Everyone I’ve worked with has been more than willing to help with whatever I need and the athletes are always going out of their way to make our stories special,” said Morgan McClanahan.

A goal of BucWild is to get the students interested in ETSU’s sports and how much fun attending games is. With incentives throughout the sports season and cheering on the buccaneers, there is something for everyone looking to be a member of BucWild.

“With the 2020 pandemic and sports being so limited last year, I really feel like there is a big disconnection and students are craving the in-person experience that can only be found in live sports. I hope that every student will look at joining this amazing, free club to be the best student section in the SoCon,” said McClanahan.
